The Luis Suarez transfer drama has gripped everyone at Liverpool. Even captain Steven Gerrard was paying close attention to the Suarez transfer situation in the summer and he admits that he feared Suarez could have left.

But now Gerrard is confident that Suarez is happy at Liverpool and is most likely to play out the rest of the season in a bid to help Liverpool get back into the top four. But if the Reds don’t make it into the Champions League, there are fears the Liverpool striker may just leave.

Gerrard was speaking to ESPN and was asked if he feels the same way now about Suarez like he did in the summer.

“I don’t feel like that about January,” Gerrard said. “January will be different because I think Luis is committed.

“I think he is happy. I think he is pleased with the decision he has made to stay around. He is in good form. The team are playing well so I think January won’t be a problem. But come the summer, I think depending how Liverpool have done will determine what goes through Luis’ mind.

“He is the key. His goals, his performance and his form will be the key whether we finish in the top four or not.”

I agree with Gerrard, I can not see Suarez leaving in January unless we have a terrible run in November and Decemeber and we fall so far off the pace to have a chance of finishing fourth. As things stand now, Liverpool have had a good start to the season and currently lie third in the table. The signs are there that Liverpool can certainly make a serious push to finish in the top four and I am sure Suarez sees that.

Decisions are most likely to be made in the summer when we all know if Champions League football is returning to Anfield or not. Suarez recently told Sport 890, a radio station in Uruguay, that he is happy at Liverpool. Suarez said, “I feel part of things at Liverpool. It is my home. I am comfortable and happy here – I work hard for Liverpool and I will always be thankful to the club, and to my team-mates.”

Only time will tell where the future of Luis Suarez lies.
