As Liverpool fans we have gotten used to seeing Daniel Sturridge’s dance celebration when he scores. I must say, the first time I saw it, I wondered what on earth he was doing! But now the England striker has revealed to us where it all came from.
Sturrdige was speaking on talkSPORT and said that it all started as an inside joke between his cousins and brothers and he then started doing it during the game. You can listen below to what exactly Sturridge said:
I must say though, that Sturridge must have the best celebration we have seen at the club in my opinion. What was really funny was when Jamie Carragher joined Sturridge last season and tried to do the celebration! It did not quite come out as planned for Carra but you have to take your hat off to him for trying.
Sturridge’s celebration has gone across the globe and reached South Africa. In the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus went on to do the Sturridge celebration in front of 78 000 fans after he scored.
If you look back at the players who constantly scored for Liverpool such as Fowler, Owen, Torres and Gerrard, there is not one celebration you can say they used to do. Luis Suarez does have his own though where he kisses his wrist and then wheels away and mimics shooting with pistols.
What are your favourite celebrations that you have seen from Liverpool players in years gone by?
