Andre Wisdom made his Derby County debut on Saturday as they were held 1-1 by Birmingham City. Wisdom who was sent out on loan from Liverpool in a bid to get regular first team football seems to have settled in straight away for the Rams and was subsequently named man of the match for Derby.

Wisdom said on the Derby Official Website, “It was a good game, I thought myself and the lads played very well. We played some great football and got a deserved goal in the first half.

“But we just could not quite manage to get the second goal, and then we went on to concede in the second-half, but overall it was a good performance and we will take the point.

“The experience so far has been great, the lads have made me feel welcome and the banter is flying about.

“I have come to Derby to gain experience, get matches under my belt and keep my fitness up. It is also about me helping Derby push for promotion, because I can see that the players here have got great quality, and today’s performance did not quite highlight how well we have played.

“After playing today, I can see that the Championship is physically demanding, and you come up against different players and different styles.

“But the main thing that you want, no matter what level you are playing at, is to win. This side has got a great mentality, who want to work hard during the week and get the result on the weekend.

“Admittedly it is a big transition coming from Liverpool, moving down to Derby, but it is a great experience.”

Wisidom, who has played all his first team games for Liverpool at right back, continued to play in this position for Derby on Saturday, however the 20-year old is more of a central defender and it will be interesting to see if Derby continue him at right back or he will get his chance to perfect his art at centre back in the Championship.
