Two changes in midfield: How Liverpool should line up against West Brom

Central Midfielders

Lucas missed the Newcastle game as his wife had just given birth. The Brazilian is now back and ready for selection and I would like to see him return to partner Gerrard in the middle. Henderson came in for Lucas at St James’ Park and was not as effective as he was against Crystal Palace. West Brom have a strong central midfield so we will need to be at our best in that department so Lucas for me is the first change to come in from the Newcastle game.

Number 10

Rodgers continues to play Victor Moses at 10 and that is not working! Moses is struggling to offer any creativity in that position as he is much more effective playing wide on the left. Rodgers has to make a change here and give Luis Alberto a chance to start.

Alberto came on against Newcastle but played more on the right but you could see that he was trying to create opportunities for the strikers and breakthrough the Newcastle defenders; something Moses was failing to do. Moses is not a bad player at all but he is not effective in the position he is being asked to play.

With Coutinho still out injured, we need some creative spark from somewhere and Alberto could provide it. So for me, Alberto to start at 10.

Strikers

For as long as Suarez and Sturridge are fit, they will continue to be the two strikers to fire goals in for Liverpool. Against Newcastle we saw them link up again for Sturridge’s goal. The more these two play together the more goals we are going to see from them.

Suarez has come out and said how happy he is with his partnership with Sturridge. Suarez told Liverpoolfc.com: “I am so happy because when you have a very good striker, and a very good partner, for defenders it is difficult because they have to give their attention to two players – not just one.

“If maybe two defenders come towards me, this creates space for Danny. This is important not just for me, but for the team and our confidence.

“He is a very good player. He had difficult moments at Chelsea and City, but this is a good time for him and I am so happy with him.”

So with all that said, my team to start against West Brom would be: Mignolet, Cissokho, Sakho, Skrtel, Toure, Johnson, Gerrard, Lucas, Alberto, Suarez, Sturridge

Who would you have?

It would be difficult to omit Henderson on current form. This is a home game and we will need our midfield to contribute in the WBA half, Lucas cannot do this. Clark’s gameplan is built on defence first, so what Lucas has to offer over Henderson may not be crucial in this game. Hendo can also be a goal threat, Lucas can not.

The back 6 from the NUFC game will start, along with SAS and SG,
with Hendo to start, it leaves Moses and Alberto vying for the No 10 spot.

  3. In defense I would prefer Agger to replace Sakho. In midfield Gerrard and Henderson should continue. If Liverpool is doing well in the game Gerrard can be sub in the 60th min either by Lucas/Allen. Moses should be drop to the bench based on last performance . Alberto to take his place. Liverpool need to win this game at all cost. Also to revenge for their defeats the last time they met. Go Reds Go. YNWA.

For me, Rodgers must use Alberto as no.10. We all saw his impact the moment he came in in our last game. Moses can not play as no.10, he is a complete winger. If we want to win today’s match we really need a creative midfielder and Luis Alberto is d man. Rodgers, pls do dat for us…… I can assure everyone dt he will impress
