Brendan Rodgers has issued an update on the Liverpool injury situation today at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Newscastle on Saturday.

Rodgers revealed that it will be Liverpool’s strongest squad yet of the season as Glen Johnson, Joe Allen and Aly Cissokho are all back in contention to play the Magpies.

“We’ll arrive with our strongest squad of the season against Newcastle.

“They haven’t played games, but they’ve been training now for the last few weeks.

“Glen Johnson will be back. Joe Allen will be back. Cissokho will be back.

“As I said, this will be the strongest available squad we’ve had this season.”

One player who is not quite ready yet for the trip to St. James Park is Coutinho. The young Brazilian is still recovering from his shoulder injury.

“He’s working with the physiologists on the field.

“He’s looking very good, but still not strong enough yet to join the training group.”

The biggest positive must surely be the return of Glen Johnson and to hear that he is fit to play on Saturday can only strengthen the first team. Johnson may not be 100% match fit but I am sure he will start the game as he slots into the right back position that Jordan Henderson has played in. Johnson will give us some much needed width as he is a much better attacking option than Henderson.
