With only a few games into the news season, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is already hinting at bringing in more news faces in the January transfer window.

Rodgers said: “Now we can only concentrate on the league up until Christmas.

“So we have to make sure we stay up in that top six in the league and keep fighting and hopefully we can reinforce in January.

“I think the players have made an excellent start.

“We were flat and subdued at the weekend and we couldn’t get going – part of that was because of the players we had available.”

Liverpool have started the season well but injuries have already taken their toll on the current squad and it is these injuries that make me believe why Rodgers has to strengthen in January.

Glen Johnson was the first big name to get injured and we have struggled in the right back position. Wisdom and Toure have filled in but both do not offer the same attacking threat that Johnson does. Rodgers really needs to look at bringing in a specialist right back who can act as back up to Johnson or maybe even push Johnson for a starting role.

Our second injury victim has been Coutinho. The talented number 10 has left a gaping hole in the Reds midfield. We do not have a back up number 10 in our books and Rodgers is going to try deploy Victor Moses or Suarez to fill in for Coutinho.

Our central midfield needs reinforcements. Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson have been playing every game and looking at our bench, I can not see a suitable replacement to come in for either of them if one gets injured or is terribly out of form. Lucas is the biggest worry as he is a specialist defensive midfielder and we do not have another one who can come in for him. Jay Spearing was the closest Lucas back up we had and he has since left the club for Bolton. Rodgers has to make sure that he brings in a defensive midfielder in January.

There is no doubt that Liverpool need to spend more in January, especially in midfield. Our starting eleven is very strong if all eleven players are fit and on form. Our problems stem when we get injuries or now need to look at the bench for a Plan B if we are not winning.

Rodgers made a big mistake by not buying Erikssen who went to spurs. He would have filled in well for Coutinho now.

Rodgers lacks agility in transfer market. Look at what Diego Costa is doing now. These are the kind of players we need.
