Liverpool went down 1-0 to Stoke on Saturday in a match which we should have gotten something out of. We were unlucky to be awarded the penalty and there is a lot of debate as to whether Carragher’s challenge deserved a penalty.

But be that as it may, we lost and we have to look back and see what went wrong. We did not do too much wring actually against Stoke, we played well but we were just not able to score. “I thought we played some decent football,” Stewart Downing told “We were unlucky and on another day we would have put our chances away, but it wasn’t to be.”

“We are very disappointed with the result but we are delighted with the effort and the commitment of the players,” Kenny Dalglish said after the game.

“On another day we could have scored three or four – I don’t think there was anything wrong with our performance. Although the passing wasn’t as good as what it has been, it was still good enough to have scored three or four goals in the game.

“There was not much more we could have done other than have that little bit of luck in front of goal.”

For me the biggest frustration of the match was when Jordan Henderson was put through on goal and he was one-on-one with the keeper but failed to score. Suarez’s miss at the death was also a heart-breaking moment but as highlighted, it was not our day.

Craig Bellamy came on with about 20 minutes to and he looked good and we can expect a lot more from him this season. I am not sure if Charlie Adam was fully fit on Saturday following the knock he picked up on international duty as quite a bit of his passes were not finding their man.

Who was Liverpool's man of the match against Stoke?
