There had been a lot of speculation this summer that Liverpool were going to sell Maxi. Then there was a point in the summer when it was suggested that Maxi himself wanted to return to Argentina this summer but Liverpool would not release him from his contract. With all that said, Maxi is still a Liverpool player and he is happy to fight for his place in the side.
Maxi showed us what he is made of last season as he started to score goals for fun towards the end of the campaign. With the arrival of Stewart Downing, Maxi will have to work extra hard to get a starting role in the side in the wide areas.
“Healthy competition is always good,” said the Argentina forward.
“Competition for places is always a positive thing for the club and I think it’s great that the signings who have arrived are of such high quality with a great level of skills and technique.
“It means the manager has to decide what he thinks is his best 11 but that is something he will decide and we will all be hoping we are in it.
“It’s always nice to welcome new faces to the club and you always go out of your way to make them feel as comfortable as possible. They are settling in well.”
It will be interesting to see how often Maxi will feature this season for Liverpool if indeed he is not sold before the close of the summer transfer window.
