Liverpool’s Head of Fitness and Conditioning Darren Burgess was interviewed on Sports Illustrated and the Australian who joined Liverpool’s staff last year talked about what goes on at Liverpool’s training and the players fitness.

What was interesting to note is that we all think Dirk Kuyt is the fittest player at Liverpool which he is but Raul Meireles is not too far behind Kuyt when it comes to fitness levels. Both players average 13km a game and of that distance, 2km is at a high speed sprint!

When asked about the quickest player at the club, Burgess said it would now have to be new signing Stewart Downing and Glen Johnson is the other speedster at the club. Whilst Soto is the slowest player at the club!

You can watch the full interview with Burgess below, courtesy of Sports Illustrated.

What a great video! The interviewer did well to ask many of the questions the fans would have. Darren didn’t duck out of any questions and answered honestly and accurately. Never knew Pepe was like that and com’on Soto – FASTER!!

Wow Soto the slowest…thats a surprise to me. Perhaps this will shut a few people up who are doubting Downing’s pace. We dont need him going on mazzy Macca-like runs, just enough quickness to beat the 1st defender and get in good service to Carroll. Which Comolli’s magic stat machine says he does better than anyone else in the league.
