The transfer activity at Liverpool this summer seems to be continuing following the arrivals of Henderson, Adam, Downing and Doni. But Liverpool still need to go shopping and a new left-back was always at the top of the shopping list this summer.

After missing out on Gael Clichy who left Arsenal to go to Manchester City and Jose Enrique holding out for a move to a team in the Champions League, Liverpool are now reported to be close to signing Aly Cissokho from Lyon.

Le Parisien is reporting that Liverpool are on the verge of signing the French left-back for £8.7million.

That is a lot of money to spend but we need a new left-back as we can not rely on Aurelio’s fitness and Robinson may not be ready yet to be the first choice left-back. Insua is also back at the club and it will be interesting to see what kind of a role he plays if Liverpool do sign Cissokho. I would guess that Insua would have to be sold this summer.

I would rather have Enrique as he has epl experince. Cissokho may take time to adjust, time we dont have.

Am i the only who thinks we do not need a new left back? Jack Robinson should be given the chance to be first choice. Carra, Stevie and Owen got early chances and they went on to do well. I cant see why Robo cant do the same.

Nah mate he’s only 17, too early for a defender. No point burning him out like Insua

I assume the plan is to use jack robinson as back up, and bringing in Aly is one hell of a deal, hes a great player.

Although i would like to see robo get more games, I agree with Gary7, no point in burning him out.

would be good to keep insua aswell, hes not that bad a player and can compete with robo in the pecking order.

Robinson to young and India has potential but I would prefer Cissokho to Enrique anyday, great signing.
