Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on Valencia winger Juan Mata and it was thought that we would be making a bid for the winger after the European Under 21 Tournament that he was taking part in and subsequently lead Spain to winning the tournament.
Now that the tournament is over, Mata has spoken out about his future and he has said that he may remain with Valencia for another season which dashes any hopes Liverpool had of signing him.
“I want to win a trophy with Valencia next season. I’ve not planned anything different as I’ve a contract until 2015,” Mata told SuperDeporte.
Arsenal were also recently linked with a move for Mata. I am not too sure how happy Valencia would be with Mata’s statement as they are heavily in debt and need to sell their big name players to raise cash and Mata is their biggest asset right now.
Now if Mata is not going to come to Liverpool this summer then we now have to press even harder to sign a Stewart Downing, Aaron Lennon or Adam Johnson.
