There is a lot of talk around at the moment about FIFA home-grown quotas and UEFA Financial Fair Play Rules, and FSG made it known early on during the first few months of their ownership of Liverpool that they were taking into account these new directives. The significant spending by the Reds this summer maybe in no small part down to the anticipation of these rules coming into effect in the near future. For this reason, an investment in the Academy to produce local home grown players has been encouraged, as well as the purchase of top class home-grown talent. The eleven players that I’ve mentioned below could very well be first team players for years to come, and should get Liverpool (and perhaps some England) fans excited:

Tyrell Belford (GK) – Probably, at the moment, the least exciting player on the list but Belford is reserve goalkeeper for England at this month’s U17 World Cup.

John Flanagan (RB) – Had some very promising performances at the back end of last season, and will no doubt be utilised again next campaign.

Martin Kelly (CB) – Played more as a right back than at centre half, but many believe that Kelly will end up in the middle of the defence. Probably one of the most exciting prospects on the list.

Andre Wisdom (CB) – Captains England U19s, the centre back can also play at right back or central midfield. Plays with a maturity beyond his years.

Jack Robinson (LB) – An exciting, pacey full back who impressed during his second appearance for the club against Arsenal, marking Theo Walcott.

In 4 years Suarez is the best striker on earth and is pushing for the Ballon d’Or, so he still starts for me! Also, Morgan MUST be getting a game, and we’ll have Mata by then as well. I get that the author is naming top young English talent, but there will still be a foreign player allowance, and Suarez will be better at 28!!
