It is looking more likely by the day that Alberto Aquilani could be headed back to Liverpool in the summer after his loan spell at Juventus. Juventus have made a €39.5million loss in the first half of the 2010/11 season which means that they may not be able to purchase Aquilani in the summer as they want to. Liverpool should not be expecting anything less than £14million for the Italian and if the reports are correct that Juventus are only willing to offer us £5million, then I can not see a deal being done.

Aquilani himself has hinted that he is happy to stay at Juventus but if a deal between the two clubs can not be reached then he would have to return to Liverpool or find another team in Italy willing to sign him for the amount of money we want.

Would you be happy if Aquilani was to return to Liverpool? Below are my 5 reasons why why Aquilani’s return to Liverpool would be a blessing:

1) Aquilani is a quality midfield player who did not get a real crack in the Premiership due to his injuries and Hodgson offloaded him to Juventus far to quickly without giving him a chance. Now that he seems to have gotten over his injuries he would be a valuable addition to the Liverpool squad come next season.

2) With Dalglish in charge now and more than likely he will be at the helm next season, Dalglish’s pass and move game is more suited to Aquilani’s own natural game.

3) Liverpool need more quality depth in the squad and I would rather have a player like Aquilani coming off the bench if he is not starting, than turning to the bench and calling upon a player like Poulsen.

4) With Steven Gerrard ‘slowing down’ in his game due to age, the young legs and passing ability of Aquilani is just what we may need just behind the front man or front two. Currently we have Raul playing in that role and he is doing fantastically well, but Aquilani could be there to provide cover or competition to Raul.

5) We can not afford to sell Aquilani on the cheap especially after we spent so much money for him. So if we can not sell him for a decent price then I would rather have him back at the club than run a serious loss in our books.

Yes, there will be those of you who think that Aquilani can not cut it in the Premiership due to the frantic pace and physical nature of the game but if there is anyone who can get the best out of him then I am sure it is King Kenny.

Should Liverpool bring back Aquilani?
