Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have been named in the 55-man short list for the FIFA/FIFPro World XI 2010. Both players will be the first to admit they have not had a great 2010 on the field. Both must have been affected by the poor season Liverpool had last term, coupled with the uncertainty around the future of the club.

Torres was plagued by a lot of injuries and he has never really gotten going this year. For Torres though he got a World Cup winners medal with Spain and that must be the highlight of his year, if not career. Torres though would not be too impressed with his contribution for Spain during the World Cup. He was meant to be one of the main stars for Spain but he had to take a back seat as he never really got going in the tournament due to injuries.

On the other hand, Gerrard had a World Cup he would like to forget. He had to take over being captain of England following the sacking of John Terry and the injury to Rio Ferdinand. Gerrard did his best for England but it was not enough to get them far in the tournament.

Gerrard and Torres were named in the final FIFA/FIPro World XIs for 2008 and 2009, while the Gerrard also made the 2007 line-up. Will they be in that team for 2010?

The FIFA/FIFPro World XI for 2010 will be announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala in Zurich on 10 January, 2011.

I voted that neither are included but am willing to change my vote if they help Liverpool get demoted this season.

I don’t see how either deserve to be in the list tbh – it’s not a criticism of their individual qualities as we all would say that they are top class players, but neither performed consistently enough throughout the year to be recognised as such imho

what a joke the results of this are. This vote is one of the m ost biased I have seen. How can either claim to be the best in their position over 2010.
