I think it is time for Roy Hodgson to stop with his experimenting and play Raul Meireles in his best position which is in central midfield. Hodgson has been deploying Meireles a lot on the right side of midfield and the Portuguese player has done a decent job there but he would be much more effective in the middle. One just has to look at how he played in the middle against Spain when he was representing Portugal and how he did on the weekend against West Ham in that position.

When we signed Raul in the summer I was 100% certain that we signed him so he can play in central midfield as that is where he has played his best football for club and country so it was shocking seeing Hodgson stick him out on the right. Raul would obviously not say “I do not want to play right midfield” as most players just simply say they are happy to play wherever the coach asks them to play.

We all know that Hodgson has made some questionable decisions with regards to players, tactics and formations during his spell at Liverpool but the Raul situation should be a no brainer especially now with Gerrard out of action there is nothing stopping Hodgson giving Raul a permanent role in the middle. When Gerrard is fit Raul can still stay in the middle alongside Lucas whilst Gerrard plays behind Torres.
