I was just reading an article which suggests that Lazio are after Javier Mascherano and that they could want to sign him as early as January. I could not help but laugh as I read this. Do they honestly think Liverpool would want to sell one of the best, if not the best, holding midfielder in the world? Secondly, would Mascherano himself want to leave Liverpool and join a lesser team such as Lazio? I do not think so.

It was suggested that Mascherano may not be happy with the limited game time he has been getting this season as Rafa seems to be preferring Gerrard and Alonso in midfield. But even then, Mascherano knows that he is a critical part in the Liverpool team and he will continue to play when called upon. Let’s not forget that Mascherano went away to the Olympics and when he came back he needed a break. I am sure by now he has fully recovered and he is going to be fresh come the second part of the season when I expect him to start playing more games.

I can not even put a price on Mascherano right now, he is that good a player. Lazio would have to come with a huge offer to prize him away and even with big money, I doubt we would sell Argentina’s captain.
