Great result for Liverpool. Going into the game yesterday, I was a bit concerned as it is never easy to go to Bolton and come back with 3 points. But we did the job and you could not have asked for a better result although we should have buried Bolton after all the chances we created. We bossed the first 45 minutes as if we were the home team as Bolton did not threaten us at all. We should have been 3-0 up at the break and then taken the foot off the pedal in the second and just enjoyed the game. But the longer the game went at 1-0, I feared that we would be in for a repeat of the Spurs game where we dominated for large periods but were not able to get the killer second goal and subsequently we got punished.
I was really not surprised to see Carragher start at rightback since Arbeloa was suspended. I just hope we do not have to use Carragher again in that position this season as he clearly does not have the pace anymore to be a wingback. You could see that it had been a while since Carra had to play in that role and he looked out of sorts.
Yet again Kuyt came up with our first goal. As much as many people may not like Kuyt, I am a fan of his and on top of his work rate, he is now scoring goals for us. And what a brilliant header it was from Kuyt. How Robbie Keane did not make it 2-0 for us remains a mystery to me. This is the second time this season (First against Atletico Madrid) when Keane has missed sitters.
In the second half, Bolton came out firing and we were on the ropes for a bit but we weathered the storm and Stevie G should have made it 2-0 but he to also missed a sitter but then he made up for it when he guided a header home from a Torres cross to make it two.
Torres came on to replace Keane in the second half and I was really impressed with Torres. He looked much sharper than he did against Spurs. It was Torres’ cross that led to Gerrard’s goal and Torres himself could have made it 3-0 but he was denied by the upright. I am so glad to see Torres back.
All in all, great result but we missed a lot of sitters in the game and we need to be converting our chances as it may end up coming down to goal difference at the end of the season.
Well played you Reds!
