January is just around the corner and that means the transfer window will be open again. I expect there to be quite a bit of activity during that time. Not so much at Liverpool but with other teams in the Premiership. But it is not going to surprise me when we get bombarded with a lot of bids for Xabi Alonso. With the form Alonso has been showing this season, it is only natural that clubs are going to want his services especially since they know that there is some tension between Xabi and Rafa.

Now I do not know exactly what is going through Alonso’s mind right now and so to Rafa’s but I hope that both parties are not willing to go their separate ways comes January. I just hope they can put their differences aside until the end of the season and then we re-look the scenario in the summer. It is clear Rafa wanted to sell Alonso and get Barry but right now, Alonso is probably our player of the season so far.

Alonso seems like a new signing with the way he has just bought in a new lease of life to the team. He is working harder and his passes are more accurate than they were last season. We have a unit that can challenge for the title this season and if we let Alonso go in January then we would seriously dent our title chances. This is the best we have looked in a very long time and let us not rock the boat.

I agree 100%. From the get-go I was saying that i thought Alonso was getting a ruff deal on the back of one bad season and that he would come good. It’s good to be proved right once in a while and if Rafa sells him now it will in my eyes the worst decision he will have made to date EVER. I just hope however that Alonso is happy at Anfield. My fear as stated before is that his new lease of life is simply down to attracting a new Spanish or Italian home. At this time I feel that Liverpools midfield is performing well with everybody contributing when called upon either in a starting 11 or a support role. Alonso and Masher should understand that they will not be playing every match but those that Rafa thinks their different playing styles suit. I feel that Rafa plays Gerrard and Masher against the better attacking sides in order to provide more cover and bite in midfield and then keeps the Gerrard/Alonso partnership for matches against the weaker sides who set up a more defensive formation that requires the passing ability that ALonso provides in order to break them down. Losing Alonso would put a serious dent in our title credentials.
