Liverpool won their second game of the pre-season by beating Lucerne 2 – 1 in Switzerland. Liverpool took the lead via a Lucas goal. Lucerne then leveled before Andriy Voronin scored the winner. It is always great to get wins during pre-season but it is more a matter of getting players fit and getting any new possible combinations working together. I had a look at the goals and the first goal by Lucas must be credited to young Spanish wonder, Danny Pacheco. I think in Pacheco, we have a potential star. Pacheco threaded a delightful through ball from the edge of the area to setup Lucas who calmly slotted the ball away.

The winner by Voronin was a moment of brilliance by the Ukrainian. I have never been a great fan of Voronin but I must take my hat off to him for his goal yesterday. He managed to spot the keeper off his line and he lobbed the keeper from just outside the box. I remember last pre-season, we saw a lot of Voronin and he looked very promising but when the season started he did not look the player he was in pre-season. Who can forget that goal he scored against Toulouse? I think Voronin really does well against lesser teams but come Champions League and the Premiership he looks out of it. I hope this coming season he can prove me wrong.

Ryan Babel also got a run out yesterday which was good to see. He will unfortunately be going to the Olympics with Holland so we will miss him for the start of the season.
The starting lineup for the game was: Cavalieri, Degen, Agger, Plessis, Pacheco, Voronin, Leto, Benayoun, Lucas, Insua, Carragher.

Agger seems to be coming along well, getting some valuable minutes under his belt. The ‘star’ players have not started playing yet with the Spanish contingent still on holiday. Stevie G complained up being tired so he did not get a run out yesterday. The more Pacheco plays, I think the better he will become. He may not be an out and out striker like Torres but he certainly has all the potential to be a world class play maker. I just hope Rafa can give him a chance during the season, who knows what he can do, I remember a certain Michael Owen been given a run when he was young and look how he turned out.
