I think we can start preparing saying goodbye to Peter Crouch. Reports over the weekend suggest that Liverpool and Portsmouth have agreed a £11m deal. I guess it was always on the cards that Crouch was going to leave this summer. It will be a big loss for Liverpool but it is a good move for Crouch as he is set to get more game time at Portsmouth than he was getting at Liverpool. Now what is Rafa going to do with this potential £11m?
He has to go out an get another striker. And with reports suggesting Rafa is keen on Robbie Keane, he may now have the cash to make a formal bid for Keane. Or maybe, he will go do Villa? But I serious doubt Villa would be coming to Liverpool this season.
Reports on the weekend had made a shock suggestion that Rafa is after Robbie Keane. I did not take this seriously then but this morning, The Sun reports that Robbie Keane wants to quite Spurs and join Liverpool. The report suggests that we will offer Spurs £5m plus Crouch for the deal to bring Keane to Anfield. Doing the figures; Spurs value Keane at £20m which I think is a ridiculous valuation. There is no way Robbie Keane can be worth more than £10m. Maybe a straight swap; Keane for Crouch would make more sense. Read the rest of this entry »
Harry Redknapp has openly admitted his pursuit of both the usual Peter Crouch, but now also has added Yossi Benayoun to the mix.
It seems to me that the heightened pursuit of Benayoun may lead to his fee escalating to the point that we simply cannot turn it down. As I’ve posted before he’s a clever player, but not one who will crack the first team of a Premiership winning side in my personal opinion.
Stay or go, it should be win-win. Starting and starting for a lesser side or sticking with a larger club for the promise of silverware? Has to be a difficult decision and one I’m sure we all wish him the best with.
Again, according to the Mirror, it seems that Arsene Wenger may be turning to Peter Crouch to replace his outbound striker Emmanuel Adebayor. With his exit supposedly imminent, the French manager has supposedly set his sights on a number of players, Crouchie among them.
While I think we need to part with him asap (before he leaves next summer on a free), I would hate to see Peter putting in 15-20 goals next term for those people at the Emirates. I would much prefer we find him a more suitable home, preferably one out of direct contention with us.
If he has to go to Arsenal, I should hope it would be for no less than 15 million quid.
It is understood that Liverpool have turned down a £9m bid for Peter Crouch from Portsmouth. Apparently Rafa wants £10m for the tall striker. I think Rafa should just accept the £9m and get rid of Crouch and we can have some cash in the bank. It is clear Crouch is not part of Rafa’s plans so he may as well just get rid of him whilst there is an offer on the table. Read the rest of this entry »
