The dust still hasn’t settled at Anfield following the departure of Kenny Dalglish. Names are already being thrown around as to who will take over from Kenny, with the likes of Martinez, Villas-Boas and Benitez being mentioned.

One thing is for sure, the departure of Dalglish has left many fans saddened and players too.

Steven Gerrard has spoken out about his feelings towards Kenny leaving. The skipper said, “The last 24 hours has been a rollercoaster for me.

“I am very sad to see Kenny leave our club. He is my idol and will always be my idol and I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for what he has done for my career.

“My focus now is on doing my best for England in the European Championships and then returning to Liverpool for a new season where we will look to build on the progress of the last 18 months and be competitive at the business end of the Premier League.”

Following the departure of Kenny Dalglish from Liverpool (I still can not bring myself to using the word “Sacked” out of respect of King Kenny), it is being suggested that FSG have already approached sacked Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas as a replacement for Dalglish.

The Independent suggests that Liverpool’s American owners approached Boas two weeks ago in a bid to prevent the Portuguese coach from joining Italian side Roma.

Now when I first heard this story, not sure how true it is though, but let’s say it is true and FSG have made contact with Villas-Boas, my mind quickly said “No!” Why would we want to bring in someone who failed at Chelsea? He lost the dressing room at Chelsea which resulted in him being sacked. Granted there are some big and old egos at Chelsea who think they run the club but what’s stopping the same thing happening at Liverpool if Boas takes over?

Would Boas be able to handle a disgruntled Gerrard, Carragher or Bellamy? These are the older players in the Liverpool squad who are not that much younger than Boas. One of the reasons Boas was shown the door at Chelsea was because he was thinking too much about the future of the club and not the present thus the results were not going their way. Boas had a vision for Chelsea, a long term one which did not include the likes of Drogba, Terry and Lampard.

Now if FSG, want to think about the future then maybe Boas is not a bad man to bring in, but based on their thoughts on Dalglish and letting him go, this can only mean FSG want results now and for that to happen, I can not see Villas-Boas being the right man to come in and take us into a Champions League position next season.

With England’s EURO 2012 squad having been announced today (Wednesday), many people were surprised with the inclusion of Andy Carroll in the squad. From a Liverpool perspective, I am very happy that four of our players have been named in the squad (Gerrard, Downing, Johnson and Carroll) with Gerrard having been named the captain. Hopefully England can give us a bit more joy this summer than Liverpool delivered.

England boss, Roy Hodgson has however come out and said that a chat with Kenny Dalglish helped convince him to pick Carroll.

“I spoke to Kenny at some length about him because I don’t know him particularly well as a person,” said Hodgson. “Kenny was absolutely convinced about the player’s ability and his personality and his seriousness as a professional. When I heard that it meant I had no further reservations.” said Hodgson.

“Andy is a different type of player to the players in the squad,” explained Hodgson. “He has that ability to hold the ball up; he has that ability in the air which is very useful and he also has that ability to make the runs in behind defenders and use his strength and his power.”

With Rooney missing the first two games of the tournament due to suspension, Carroll may just be leading the line for England, and with Gerrard behind him, we may just get a glimpse of what to expect for Liverpool next season.

Twitter and Facebook are running rampant this afternoon (Tuesday) with suggestions that Kenny Dalglish has stepped down as Liverpool boss following his meeting with the club owners in the USA. Liverpool have not issued any statements yet regarding this speculation but the Mirror is reporting that we should have an answer by 4pm today from the club.

The Mirror says: “Rumours to that effect were swirling on Twitter this morning and official word from the club is expected after the meeting breaks up, thought to be at around 4pm today.

Henry and Werner were expected on Meyseyside later this week to review the Reds’ season and plan the way ahead but Dalglish decided to fly to America to hasten the process.

Despite winning the Carling Cup, Henry and Werner are disappointed by Liverpool’s failure to get close to a Champions League place.”

It is understood that Dalglish and Clarke met with FSG officials yesterday and the important meeting with Henry is taking place today (Tuesday). Wouldn’t one love to be a fly on the wall for that one!

Following the disappointing end to our season with a defeat to Swansea, Kenny Dalglish and Steve Clarke whisked across the Atlantic to meet the Liverpool owners and reports today (Tuesday) are suggesting that Dalglish has stepped down. Now there is no confirmation of this yet and its still all rumours. As expected, Liverpool have not issued any statement yet but one is expected in the next 24 hours. It really would not shock me if Dalglish has stepped down or has been asked to step down following a not to great season.

One person I think who would be relishing the prospect of King Kenny stepping down is Rafa Benitez. The ex-Liverpool boss has made it no secret that he would love to return and manage the club one day. I bet he did not think it could be this soon.

Before Dalglish left for the USA this week, a lot of speculation going around was that Wigan’s Roberto Martinez had been lined up as the favourite to replace Dalglish if he were to leave. Both Dalglish and Martinez laughed off this speculation.

Personally, I do not think Martinez would do a great job as manager of Liverpool. He is still very young and has only managed Swansea and Wigan in his time: both clubs are not as big as Liverpool, even if you combine them!

I know many fans are divided about the prospect of Rafa returning but would that not be a better option than Martinez?

Who can ever forget the white suites that Liverpool wore to the FA Cup final?

Thank goodness we will not be wearing those suites again and instead we will be wearing Ramsey made suites.

Liverpool today (Wednesday) announced that Turkish menswear brand, Ramsey, will be providing the formal Club suits for the FA Cup Final this Saturday and the forthcoming 2012/2013 season.

The exclusive two year deal will see Ramsey supply bespoke tailored products to the Liverpool FC First Team, including suits, shirts, ties and belts.

The commercial side of the club seems to be running well, we getting all these new sponsorship deals and a lot of credit has to be given to MD Ian Ayre.

“We are delighted to welcome Ramsey as our official formalwear supplier for the next two years. The Club is continuing to team up with successful companies around the world which once again shows the value of the LFC brand globally. We look forward to working with Ramsey to support our mutual goals.” said Ayre.

Now hopefully all this off field success will translate into results on the field.

As the starting lineups came through yesterday (Sunday) for our game against Norwich, many Liverpool fans were surprised to see Andy Carroll’s name not being in the starting lineup, let alone the bench as the giant striker has hit a patch of form and for s striker it is important for them to keep playing when they are scoring.

One fan tweeted : No Carroll, but the boy has been on the up! What’s wrong with Kenny?? JW Henry, get on the blower to Pep, Kenny is hopeless!

Well Dalglish straightened it out for us after the Norwich game and said that Carroll was suffering from a groin niggle thus he did not feature in the 3-0 win.

The highlight of yesterday was Suarez’s hat trick. One wonders if Suarez would have played that well if he had started up front with Carroll? Based on the display of Suarez and the attacking players, it is clear to see that Suarez prefers to play up front by himself with support coming from the likes of Gerrard, Downing and Bellamy.

Questions will continue to be asked on whether Carroll and Suarez can effectively play together. Do you think Suarez and Carroll will both start the FA Cup final?

With the summer transfer window set to kick off soon, the transfer rumour mill is at it again and you can be sure there will be a lot of news and speculation surrounding players joining and leaving Liverpool this summer.

Already there is talk that Liverpool have bid £16.3million for the Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez.

The Uruguay international, who is only 21-years-old had been dubbed as being a similar player to Kaka. Ramirez’s agent is the one who has said a bid has been made for his player from a Premier League club but would not reveal names but the suggestion is that it is Liverpool.

“Bologna have received an offer near to 20million euros from an important club in the Premier League,” he revealed. “Bologna will decide at the end of the season what they are going to do.”

It would not surprise me if it is Liverpool as we have a strong Uruguay presence at the club already with Suarez and Coates.

The attacking qualities from midfield that Ramirez could bring to the side are much welcome. For years we have been relying on Stevie Gerrard to create and score goals from midifeld for us but as he is getting on in age and not playing as many games as he used to, it is time for us to get someone younger in to eventually take over from our captain and Ramirez may just be the answer.

With the current season set to be coming to an end in a few weeks time, it is no secret that we have had a poor season even if we go on to win the FA Cup. Our league form has not been where it should be and we need to step up an extra couple of notches to improve our league positioning next season.

The only way we can improve is to go out and bring in some new players. But according to the Mirror, Kenny will only have £20million to spend this summer transfer window compared to the £60million he had last summer.

“We will have money to spend, whoever it’s on,” said Dalglish.

“There will be money for us.

“Whether it’s the FA Cup money, Raul being sold to Chelsea or from commercial sources, it doesn’t matter where it comes from.

“It all goes into the coffers. The money which is there for us to spend… we will get whatever they can give us.”

Now if this is correct, we do not have much money to spend as that £20million could really get you only one top class player.

Comolli got the sack a few weeks back following his poor spending last summer in bringing in a whole bunch of players who have simply not done well this season. It will be difficult for Dalglish to sell those players and get back the same amount of money he spent on them. Our only hope may be that the likes of Adam, Downing, Henderson and Carroll will improve two-fold next season and live up to the big money we spent on them. They will have no excuses now of not settling into a new club as they have had an entire season at Anfield.

On the other hand, we maybe be able to get some money from selling the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani.

Who would you want Liverpool to bring in if we only have £20million to spend?

It’s 25th May 2005 and the Champions League Final is deep into extra time. Liverpool have somehow fought back from three goals down and are level with European giants AC Milan. ‘The Miracle of Istanbul’ is almost complete.

But with the game entering its final stages, Liverpool’s players are struggling to stand, let alone keep Shevchenko, Crespo and co at bay.

In the 111th minute, a wicked Serginho cross looks sure to find Jon Dahl Tomasson just six yards from goal. Yet there is one Liverpool player who just refuses to let the Dane score. Jamie Carragher stretches every sinew of his aching body to get the faintest of touches on the ball. He collapses in a heap in obvious pain. Despite the medical team rushing on with a stretcher, Jamie Carragher defiantly dismisses them and carries on.

As soon as he’s back on the pitch though, the iconic number 23 has to repeat the feat as yet another Serginho cross is swung into the box. Carra grimaces before slowly pulling himself to his feet to face wave after wave of attack from The Rossoneri.

Fast forward 20 minutes and Carragher is skipping wildly towards the Liverpool fans in the Ataturk Stadium as a Champions League winner.

Those images will live long in the memory of Liverpool fans worldwide, but his performances this season have been in stark contrast to his superhuman showings throughout the 2004-05 campaign.

With Dalglish’s preferred central defensive partnership being Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel –who have both been magnificent this season – Carragher has found it increasingly difficult to nail down a place in the team.

When he has had the chance to play, his lack of pace has been evident and opposition teams target this weakness at every opportunity.

In the FA Cup Semi-Final, the Agger and Skrtel partnership was disrupted to accommodate Carragher. The uncertainty was evident throughout the first half and was highlighted massively in Carragher’s hurried clearance which rebounded to Jelavic, who put the Toffees ahead.

Carragher has been written off by critics many times before, only to bounce back and prove his worth with a series of exceptional performances.

But perhaps it is time for Carra to make the progression from player to coach. Many pundits, players and fans believe that Carragher will make a superb coach, such is his enthusiasm and attention to detail. His organisational skills, which have helped countless Liverpool defenders on the pitch, may be even better served in a coaching role at Melwood.

At the grand old age of 34, Jamie Carragher holds the record for the most European appearances made by any player in the famous red shirt. His heroics throughout the 2004-05 season rightly saw him collect the player of the year award and he has cemented his place in Liverpool folklore.

But all legends have to end their career at some point, and those that are remembered most fondly are the ones who retire before their image is tarnished. Sadly for Carra, the time has come.
