I was going through the pictures of our pre-season training in Switzerland and I saw images of Andriy Voronin! I had totally forgotten that he existed! I had hoped that after his spell at Hertha Berlin last season that he would have made his move a permanent one. I am not the biggest fan of Voronin at all, infact I am not a fan. He just did not deliver for us when we signed him and as a result, Rafa shipped him off to Germany on loan. If Hertha had qualified for the Champions League then I am sure Voronin would have stayed there. But alas he is back at Liverpool and still wearing the number 10 shirt!

It does not look like he will be leaving so I guess we are stuck with him! I just hope that he steps up this season and delivers the goals. He could just be the person we need to lead the line upfront when Torres is injured or rested. I would be more than happy if he can give us the kind of return he gave for Hertha Berlin: 11 goals in 20 games. That would actually be an amazing return.
Voronin could just save us millions from signing a new striker if he starts to deliver for us. What are your thought on Voronin?
There are suggestions that Andriy Voronin could cut his season long loan to Hertha Berlin to come back to Anfield. Having sold Keane, we are short of options upfront but I would rather have things the way they are than have Voronin back. For me, Voronin has been one of Rafa’s worst signings and I can not see him coming back and helping us win the Premiership. I had actually hoped we would have sold him in the summer than send him out on loan.
Voronin never settled in at Liverpool so what makes him think he can settle in now? I have just had a look at Voronin’s states for the season at Hertha and he has played 15 games and scored 4 goals, so even at Hertha he is not really setting the stage alight. I would actually prefer Ngog to start ahead of Voronin!
I guess at the end of the day it is Rafa’s choice if he wants to recall Voronin from loan but I some how do not see Rafa taking this option. Some of you may disagree with me and you may believe that we need as many players in the squad as we can in the push for the title but do you remember some of those shocking performances Voronin put in for us? I do not think I could live with myself if he misses a sitter with minutes to go in a crucial 6 pointer match. I would rather have a Stevie or Torres miss than live with that fact that Voronin cost us the league!
Striker Andriy Voronin has agreed a one-year loan deal with Hertha Berlin. The Ukrainian international joined Liverpool on a free transfer 12 months ago, but failed to make much of an impact at Liverpool with many fans not being overly impressed by the striker. Voronin scored six goals in his 27 appearances for the club but will now return to the Bundesliga, having previously played for Bayer Leverkusen and Cologne.
Voronin just did not seem to fit in at Liverpool and as much as he may have wanted to stay, I think Rafa has advised him that he will not get much game time this season if he stayed and a move away from the club would be best for him. I would have wanted to see him sold permanently and then we get some cash to spend from his sale. I will not miss Voronin much as he did not do too much to impress me in the 12 months he was with us. My one memory I will take away was his goal against Tolouse and that is about it. It would be a rather short highlights package to reflect Voronin’s time at Anfield.
But thank you for your services Andriy, and wishing you all the best in Germany.
“You’ll Never Walk Alone”
I was reading a report on Liverpoolfc.tv today which was talking about how Andriy Voronin is looking forward to next season and that he owes us the fans after not having a successful season in the previous campaign. I can never say I hate any player that wears the red shirt for Liverpool but Voronin let me down, big time last season. Granted it was his first season in a new country and it takes time to settle in etc. But even if he has 5 seasons in the Premiership, I just do not think he is the kind of player who will get the Kop buzzing and score a bag full of goals.
