Liverpool are in a race against the clock to sign keeper Timo Horn from Cologne, according to German newspaper Bild.

Horn has a €9million release clause in his contract but it expires in the next few weeks. Cologne Sporting Director Jorg Schmadtke has made sure that no player can leave during the middle of pre-season so Horn’s release clause lasts only until the end of the current Bundesliga campaign.

When asked about whether there had been any contact about Horn, Schmadtke replied:

“For me, it is crucial when a letter from a club is on my desk or when the Player’s agent calls me for an inquiry. Both have not yet happened.”

Horn is only 22 but has already made over 100 appearances for the German club and has been the Bundesliga side’s number one goalkeeper for the last 4 seasons, making over 30 starts in each campaign since the beginning of the 2012/13 season. He is rumoured to be the keeper that Klopp is eyeing to replace Simon Mignolet. The Belgian’s position has come under close scrutiny after another season of erratic form for the Reds
