The Telegraph is reporting today (Friday) that Liverpool have had a £15million offer for Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan accepted. The 26-year old midfielder has been linked with a move to the Reds in the past but opted to join Dortmund instead for £25million from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013.

There is no doubting that Mkhitaryan is a very decent player but is he really what Liverpool need right now? Mkhitaryan is more of an attacking midfielder who plays more as a playmaker. He would provide great attacking options from midfield alongside the likes of Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana.

But the Liverpool midfield is lacking some steal right now and one would have expected Brendan Rodgers to try bring in a midfield ‘hardman’ especially with rumours that Lucas maybe leaving to go out on loan.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, but if the Mkhitaryan deal comes through, I can not see FSG sanctioning the purchase of Illarramendi too.
