Reports today in the Liverpool ECHO suggest that Liverpool midfielder Lucas is set to leave the club on an initial loan deal to Turkish club Besiktas.

Besiktas transfer committee head Erdal Torunogullar? said: “Lucas is a player on our shortlist, talks are ongoing.”

Besiktas board member Erol Kaynar added: “A loan deal is likely, it could go ahead within the next two days.”

In my opinion, letting Lucas go out on loan right now is a very bad decision on Brendan Rodgers’ part. Lucas may not be an automatic starter for the Liverpool starting lineup but he is needed as part of the squad for the long season ahead of us.

Brendan Rodgers has not opted to play with a defensive midfielder, which is what Lucas is, for the first two games of the Premier League season. Jordan Henderson and James Milner have been the preferred option in central midfield but it is evident from the opening games that Liverpool are going to need a bit more steal in midfield throughout the season against the better sides.

Currently, Rodgers’ central midfield options are Henderson, Milner, Can, Allen and Lucas. Now if you let Lucas leave now, we will be very thin in that department. Hopefully Rodgers is planning on bringing someone else in place of Lucas.

Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi has been linked with a move to Liverpool but no deal has been struck yet. The Reds should learn from past transfer mistakes and make sure Asier Illarramendi is signed first before letting Lucas leave or else we will be caught out with no replacement coming in for the Brazilian.

Lucas may have received mixed views during his time at Liverpool but one thing that is certain is that there is no one else currently in the squad who has his experience and is able to play in his defensive midfield role. There are going to be games when we need a level headed player to come in and sit infront of the back four; no one fits the bill better than Lucas. Yes, he may be getting on in age but he still can put in a shift for another season or two.

  1. I wonder why BR is still liverpool fc manager.Rogers would never get a perfet replacement for Lucas. He would rather go for a teenager which is why we have been struggling.Believe me,our game against Arsenal must surely expose Gomez.

Are you thick or something? Lucas is a holding midfielder and Gomez is a left back who has not struggled once. I don’t know what games you’ve been watching but it sure as hell wasn’t Liverpool.

Also haven’t you been taught that you have to leave a space after a punctuation mark. As in:

Gomez is okay and had a sound start but, he’s hardly the finished article and he’s definitely far from perfect. He’s been prone to losing possession and being caught out of position.

As for calling the gentleman thick. Wow. What an ignorant prat. Not everyone proof reads their posts in case the grammar nazis come spoiling for a fight. May not even be English. I can tell you learning a foreign language is far from easy.

Gomez with Moreno in front of him, young, fast, defended well together against AFCB and both can get forward.
great promising partnership, now just get rid of BR

How can Rodgers be taking LFC to the next level when players like Vidal, Kovacic, Pedro, Memphis, Di Maria and a host of others were available and he never signed any of them? If we must be in UCL, we need Champions League materials. I don’t like it when our good players are rumoured out of the club when the actual problem is the manager. Sir Alex Ferguson won the EPL title with a squad that was almost taken to relegation by David Moyes just a season after. Secondly, what is the difference b/w Mario and Lallana now? BR expects Lallana to improve but refuses to play Markovic, Lucas and Mario for the same reason. Ancellotti or Klopp, and we are better for sure.

I said it before and will say it again Brendan is waisting LFC budget buying alot of kids that is unproven then sending them out on loan and when there loans are finished they get no where near the first team and get sold for less and what he is doing to Lucas balo and markovic ain’t fare we never had n manager that is this bad dealing with individual players and isolating them to who knows where and I reckon Lucas can even do better then llalana who is really struggling

      Another illiterate:

      I’ve edited it for you.

Okay now Balotelli is lazy end of. Lazar Markovi? will get games as we have The Europa, the League Cup, FA Cup and the Premier League. I would prefer Lucas to stay but I don’t know the full story and as we all should know stories have 2 sides. When you know what you are talking about then post.

Check you out! How much do English teachers earn these days? Can’t be much. I’ll take my poor English and keep my job paying four times a year more than what you do.

Mr BR time at LFC is coming. to an end he think. he has got the right team, long way to go. Mr BR u are making the biggest mistake in ur life.

  4. Most wanted says:

I hate Rodgers but love Liverpool

    • iriadi says:

100% with you. In a fairytale world, let Liverpool lose their next couple of games against the big teams. BR is sacked, Klopp came in to the rescue, we just managed to clinch the 4th spot and we can live happily ever after. Next season, we’ll be the champion

  5. Rodgers is an illtrate in coaching field especially big club like Lfc. It was a greatest mistake to further allow him to stay.morever Lfc still have proble in lack of replacement of sterling, Gerard.whereby marco Reus suppose to lure to the amfield, including Asier Illaramendi and Sheryshelve or any other quality player l love Lfc but l hate the manager b/c of his insignificant role.

    • Ezra says:

One need to understand the dynamics of soccer before you expose oneself. Rogers is taking LFC to the next level only one has to apply logic what kind of a fan who wish the worst for his team? YWNA

  6. Philcollins says:

Thanks to you guys for all your comments on Brendan Rodgers and Lucas. I brought in the issue of Gomez just to express my worry over the signing of all these teenagers. As we failed to pass through group stages in UCL last season with averagely mature players how could we be better going to UCL next season with this kind of players? As for you Billious, Billions (mr know it all) or whatever you are called, mind your business! Grow up boy!

  7. Red revenge says:

    Hi Billious,

I’ve edited the following paragraph for you to help you with you grammar.

‘Okay, (Please insert appropriate comma) now Balotelli is lazy end of. (end of what? This sentence is incomplete). Lazar Markovi? (I am unaware of a player named Markovi at Liverpool. Why is there a question mark?) will get games as we have The (Why is the ‘T’ capitalised?) Europa, the League Cup, FA Cup and the Premier League. I would prefer Lucas to stay but I don’t know the full story and (Please insert comma) as we all should know (Please insert comma) stories have 2 (Highly inappropriate use of a number to replace a word) sides. When you know what you are talking about (Please, please, please insert comma) then post.’

Overall, you are doing well. I would urge you to do more homework and concentrate a little more in class. You spend far too much of your time putting others in the class down for their mistakes. A little humility goes a long way, Billious.

This is excellent news the more Rogers does these things the quicker we can get Klopp in.
Keep up the good work Rogers!

  9. NWA says:

BR needs sacking, he hasn’t got a clue, he turns good players into bad players, plays people out of position, one season buys too many midfield player next too many forwards, none are mark keys signings, even Ben is a big risk consistency wise, he spent of over 2m, and the side still not where it needs to be, I love the club so much that it hurts, watching his tenure, suso wasn’t even given a chance, and his transfer record is shit, and he only buys younger players, because he hasn’t got no kudos with top players, he’s formation has now been clocked by the rest of the league, and if the man had any respect he should fallen on his own sword, at the end of last season, when we play lower teams we should play two strikers, sorry BR you tried but in my eyes you’ve failed, let’s not forget the treatment of agga and now Lucas, Br needs to see the firing squad, right now let’s not fool ourselves and say he’s all right! Let’s take arsenal example when they fired another BR Bruce Ricoh for bad transfer policy, that’s all I’m saying!
