Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Real Madrid’s midfielder Asier Illarramendi. Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has tweeted an update on the current situation:

Many Liverpool fans believe that Illarramendi would be a good signings for the club and would give the side some much needed options in central midfield. Currently Liverpool have Henderson, Milner, Can, Allen and Lucas as central midfield options but there is talk of Lucas moving on before the transfer window closes thus freeing up space for the 25-year old Illarramendi.

Illarramendi has not managed to break into the Real Madrid side and his situation has been worsened now that the Spanish side have signed Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan who is also a midfielder.

Liverpool should surely make a bid for Illarramendi and add some more quality to the squad. There have been a lot of new arrivals at Anfield this summer but this time round it has been quality first team players such as Benteke, Firmino and Clyne. Illarramendi may not go straight into the first team depending on what formation Rodgers wants to use but if the Liverpool manager wants to deploy a holding midfielder then Illarramendi’s qualities would be great to have.
