Christian Benteke has been confirmed as Liverpool’s new number 9 today as he will take over the famous jersey from Rickie Lambert who has now left for West Brom.

The number 9 jersey is well respected across many football teams around the world and it is no different at Liverpool with the likes of Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres having worn it for the Reds in the Premier League.

But there are some players who have worn the famous jersey and have not done well with it on their back. We look at those players now:

Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka vs Liverpool

The French striker arrived at Liverpool in 2001 on a brief loan spell from PSG. Having done well for Arsenal in the Premier League before, one would have thought Anelka would shine for Liverpool but it was not meant to be as he only managed four goals in 20 appearances.

I will be amazed if Rickie doesn’t get into double figures at Albion.its how you play him,he needs balls like the one from McClean the other night v Bristol and with Albion buying in proven pact wingers he will get his bread and butter balls, what you have to remember is Rickie is a goal scorer/finisher.Liverpool’s impatient loss Albion’s gain I think
