Sterling was modelling the new strip made by Boston based sportswear brand New Balance, alongside teammates Daniel Sturridge, Simon Mignolet and Martin Skrtel.

The 20-year-old was cheered when his name was announced orignally, but when it came to being interviewed one member of the 500 invited crowd shouted: “make sure we see you wearing it next season” – a comment that brought cheers and applause from the other supporters.

Sterling was left to look sheepish, and did not acknowledge the comment.

Instead he focused on Liverpool’s recent progression to the FA Cup semi final, insisting it would be special to play at Wembley as it was his ‘home town.’

Sterling has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, having admitted to turning down a contract offer of £100,000 a week in an unauthorised interview with the BBC.

He has also been linked with a move to Arsenal, having admitted speculation with the London based club was ‘flattering’ in the same interview last week.
