Martin Skrtel has been given a three match ban by the FA for an incident which saw the Slovakian defender ‘stamp’ on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

The incident took place in the 94th minute of the game with the Reds chasing an equaliser, and was missed by referee Martin Atkinson.

However, the FA have stepped in having reviewed the footage on television.

Skrtel is now set to miss the Reds clashes with Arsenal, Newcastle and the FA Cup replay at Blackburn Rovers, despite having appealed the decision on the grounds it was accidental.

The 30-year-old took to Instagram to voice his opinions on the decision, posting a picture of clowns in a not-so-subtle dig at the FA.

He will escape further punishment for this however.
