Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy believes Manchester City are planning to swoop for Reds manager Brendan Rodgers in the summer.

City crashed out of the Champions League at the last 16 for the second season running under Manuel Pellegrini, and are off the pace in the Premier League.

Pellegrini is under pressure at the Etihad, whilst Rodgers has turned Liverpool’s season around after a difficult start, having come within two points of the Premier League title last season.

And Murphy believes the big spending Manchester club have Rodgers on their radar, although he does not believe the Reds would consider letting him leave.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “I have heard, and I don’t necessarily think this would ever happen but, with all of Man City’s money and power, they may try and steal Brendan Rodgers from Liverpool.

“I can’t see Liverpool ever letting Rodgers go [though] because of how good he is and how good he could go on to be.

“There is one stand out candidate for the next Manchester City manager, and that’s Diego Simeone.

“People have talked about Carlo Ancelotti because of his tried and tested formula, but what Simeone has done at Atletico is [amazing].

“I have never seen a team play for a manager like Atletico, they are incredible. They are non-stop.

“It’s not just one team, that team has had to evolve because he has to sell his best players every summer and still competes. He’s the man.”

They may want him but they wont get him and the same applies to Sterling, they can keep their millions in the bank.

I HOPE THIS IS NOT A RUMOUR.
