Mario Balotelli has been described as an ‘absolute waste of time’ by former Liverpool defender and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson.

The Italian was introduced as a second half substitute in the 0-0 draw with Blackburn on Sunday, but failed to make an impact as the Reds were forced to a replay at Ewood Park.

Lawrenson said: “‘Forget about Mario Balotelli. He is an absolute waste of time. He shouldn’t be anywhere near this team.

“I can see why Brendan Rodgers threw him on today as he might just create something, but 99 times out of 100 he will let you down.”

The timing of the comments seem a little strange, given that Balotelli was given 30 minutes to make an impact – and was no worse than the rest of his teammates.

Lawrenson described Balotelli’s signing as ‘a no brainer for the money’ in the summer.

What do you think of the latest comments on Balotelli? Isn’t it clear he has become a scapegoat for whenever the team has a poor performance? Let us know your comments below.

I do think he is a waste of space, but he certainly is not alone. Along with some a few of the other players…and yes that does include Johnston we certainly require better.
