Raheem Sterling has hinted he is close to signing a new contract with Liverpool, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 20-year-old was on pre match press conference duty ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League second leg tie against Besiktas, and was questioned on any progress with contract negotiations that had been going since the start of the season.

The forward has been linked with the likes of Paris St Germain, Chelsea and Real Madrid following the delay in signing a new deal at Anfield, but Sterling insists he is happy at Liverpool.

“It is not a distraction to me, I am concentrating on winning games for Liverpool and hopefully it will be done soon,” he said.

“I speak to my representative every day and he has just told me to concentrate on playing football, and him and the club will deal with it.

“I am happy playing football and I am focused on trying to do my best for this football club.

“Every young player is getting a chance when they show they are working hard on the training pitch and that is credit to the manager for giving them the chance to shine at the highest level.”
