Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been linked with a return to the Premier League, emerging as one of the favourites to take over at Newcastle United.

The Champions League winning boss has refused to commit his future to Napoli, which has seen reports link him with a move to the north East at the end of the season.

John Carver is currently in charge of the Magpies until the end of the season, after Alan Pardew left the club to take over at Crystal Palace.

The 54-year-old still has a house on the Wirral and his family enjoyed the lifestyle in England.

Benitez said: “I’ll speak about my future before the end of the season.

“For now, I want to stay focused on the present, and the games we have coming up.

“I have a good relationship with the players and the club so there’s still time to discuss the issue. When I leave Napoli, whether that’s in a year or five years, I want the team to be more mature.”

Benitez spent the majority of the 2012-13 season as interim manager at  Chelsea, where he won the Europa League.

He remains a popular figure at Anfield, having won the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup in 2006, as well as finishing runner up in the Champions League in 2007, and second in the Premier League in 2009.

Would you like to see Benitez back in the Premier League? Can you ever see him returning to Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.

  1. We are comfortable with Brendan Rodgers since he changed liverpool squad into new liverpool.
Am also expecting liverpool will start winning tittles for the next season.

  2. Geoff Price says:

Nothing has changed my mind regarding Rodgers as a manager, still find him lacking in knowledge an embarrassing. And if what we are led to believe by the Andy Carroll view on him leaving Liverpool…..Two faced.
