Liverpool have been tipped to beat Arsenal to the signing of Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette, reports the Daily Express.

The Frenchman is leading the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts this season, and has been described by the Lyon owner as being ‘better than Gareth Bale.’

His form has seen him linked with a big money summer move to either Liverpool or Arsenal, and Ligue 1 expert Julien Laurens believes the Reds are the favourites to secure his signature.

“I think if Lyon win the league, he will go,” he told The Sport Review.

“If they qualify for the Champions League by finishing second or third I think he might give it another year.

“I think he has always wanted to be at the top level and play in the Champions League with his home club.

“It’s his first really big season and I’m just not sure if he is good enough already for a top-four club in England.

“I think the Bundesliga will suit him more than any other league.

“I really believe he would do well in the Bundesliga but I think he prefers England he might try to come over here.

“I think Brendan Rodgers really likes him.

“Rodgers likes those types of players that can play anywhere up front and with a lot of movement, so I think he could eventually fit in well there.

“But as I said, I’m just not sure if he is ready for that just yet.”
