Rickie Lambert faces a fight for his Liverpool future over the remaining months of the season, having rejected the chance to join Aston Villa on transfer deadline day.

Brendan Rodgers had previously said he had no desire to sell any of his players during the transfer window, and rejected several approaches to take Lambert on loan.

But a late offer of £5million cash was accepted by the Reds, who left the decision in the hands of Lambert.

The striker has only started 10 matches in all competitions for the Reds this season, and knew the chance of regular first team football would have been more likely at Villa Park.

But having only signed for his boyhood club last summer, Lambert opted to stay and fight for his place at Anfield.

The 32-year-old has 16 months left to run on his current contract, and will be looking to improve on his record of three goals in 24 appearances this term in order to remain at Anfield beyond the summer.

Do you think Rickie Lambert made the right decision in staying at Liverpool? Would you have rather sold him for £5million? Let us know your thoughts below.
