Liverpool will assess the injury suffered by Mamadou Sakho during the Reds Capital One Cup semi final defeat at Stamford Bridge.

The French defender has been a key player since returning from injury in December, however last night he was forced off early in the second half with a back injury.

Sakho is understood to have been suffering with a back problem prior to the game, and was replaced with Glen Johnson are 57 minutes.

The injury will be assessed at Liverpool’s Melwood training base, but as it stands the former Paris St Germain defender is a doubt for the weekend’s game with West Ham.

Glen Johnson could replace him as a left sided centre back, whilst £20million summer signing Dejan Lovren is fit again.

The Croatian defender has not started for Liverpool since the Capital One Cup quarter final win over Bournemouth in December, following an unconvincing start to his Anfield career.
