Daniel Sturridge could be fit to play some part in Liverpool’s Capital One Cup semi final second leg against Chelsea, having returned to full training.

Sturridge has missed almost five months with injury, with his last appearance for the Reds coming on August 31 away to Tottenham.

But Brendan Rodgers said at his pre-match press conference that the forward has trained well since his return – meaning he could find himself on the bench at Stamford Bridge.

“We will see how Daniel is today,” said Rodgers.

“He trained very well with the team yesterday and it is as confident as he has looked. We won’t risk him that is for sure. We need to make sure he is ready and feels ready.

“He won’t be 100 per cent when he comes back. He will need game time, but all we can do is make sure he is in the best condition he can be physically and mentally.”
