Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed how Mario Balotelli annoyed him during his time as manager of Inter Milan – by going to watch the Formula One instead of turning up to an arranged team meeting.
Mourinho famously labelled the Liverpool striker as ‘unmanageable’ from his time in charge of Inter, and has revealed a previously untold story to back up that claim.
Mourinho said: “I told him to be in my office at 2pm for a meeting. He was not there. When I called him he went to the Formula One qualification race on a Saturday for the race on Sunday.
“I told him: ‘Mario I told you that you have to come to my office at two o’clock!’
“He told me: ‘Meetings in your office I can have every day but to see the Formula One it’s only once a year in Italy.’
“In the moment it is difficult to accept because you are speaking about top professional football. But a kid of 18, 19, to have one of these naive reactions.”
