Liverpool are preparing a massive £50million bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to the Daily Express.

The French forward fired three goals in two Champions League appearances against the Reds this season, and despite scoring consistently over the past few seasons at the Bernabeu, he is not viewed as a long term option by manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Reports in Spain suggest it is only a matter of time until Benzema leaves, with Ancelotti keen to raise funds to bring in Marco Reus and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Liverpool have struggled for goals all season, with Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini having managed just one Premier League goal between them this term, whilst Daniel Sturridge has been absent since August through injury.

Spanish journalist Manuel Estaben believes the reigning European Champions would not hesitate were they to receive a big offer for the French international.

He said: “Benzema is on thin ice. If they receive a big bid, they will not be hesitant.”

“The dream is to combine Kun Aguero, Marco Reus and Cristiano Ronaldo, who would become the best front line in the world of football.”
