Liverpool are plotting an audacious move to sign Chelsea legend Petr Cech on loan in January, according to the Daily Mirror.

Cech has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge since Thibaut Courtois returned from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid in the summer, and Liverpool are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

Brendan Rodgers made the decision to drop Simon Mignolet ‘indefinitely’ for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, with the £9million Belgian goalkeeper having made a poor start to the season.

Brad Jones currently has the number one shirt at Anfield, but Rodgers is eager to add a goalkeeper of proven quality in the transfer window.

And the Liverpool boss hopes his friendship with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will play a part in him landing Cech on loan until the end of the season at least, with the 32-year-old eager for regular first team football.

Chelsea do not see Liverpool as a title rival this season, meaning they could be willing to do business, whilst the Reds have since denied they have already agreed a £3million deal to sign Mexico’s World Cup goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
