Brendan Rodgers insists Raheem Sterling is happy at Liverpool, despite reports claiming the 20-year-old had rejected the offer of a new contract worth £70,000 a week.

Sterling still has two years left to run on his current deal, but is hoping to be offered improved terms after establishing himself as one of the top young players in world football over the past 12 months.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris St Germain have all been linked with a £50million move for the England international, but Rodgers insists Sterling remains happy at Anfield.

“It’s up to the club and his representatives to sort out the deal but there’s no unhappiness,” the Liverpool boss told reporters ahead of Sunday’s trip to Manchester United.

“The club has spoken to my representatives and hopefully something can be done really soon,” Sterling said reporters last month.

“Hopefully I can achieve the goals I want to achieve here at Liverpool in years to come. I am happy to be here for as long as possible. I am just happy to play football at this football club for many years to come.”

Some reports have suggested Sterling is unwilling to sign a new contract whilst the future of Rodgers remains unclear, with the Liverpool boss continuing to face pressure after a disappointing start to the season.
