Raheem Sterling is ‘nowhere near any agreement’ over a new contract, reports the Telegraph.

The 20-year-old has been offered a contract worth a reported £70,000 a week, but following the Reds disappointing exit from the Champions League, a source close to the deal reckons Sterling is set to reject the offer.

That will no doubt attract the interest of both Chelsea and Real Madrid, who have previously been linked with a £50million deal for the Liverpool star.

The offer of a contract which is £40,000 more a week than his current wage has been described as ‘nowhere near acceptable’ by the source.

Reds fans will hope this is simply negotiating practice, given the level of importance Sterling has been given over the past 12 months.

Brendan Rodgers has previously stated he is ‘adamant’ the Reds prized asset will be going nowhere, whilst the source also said the forward remains ‘committed to the club’ for whom he signed as a 15-year-old from QPR in 2010.
