Jordan Henderson has urged Liverpool to do whatever it takes to get Steven Gerrard to sign a new contract.

The 34-year-old is out of contract with the Reds in the summer, and is currently considering the offer of a new two year deal.

Gerrard proved his worth to the Reds with a goal and a man of the match performance during last night’s 1-3 win at Leicester.

And Henderson – who was also on the scoresheet at the Kings Power Stadium – has urged the club to ensure the skipper signs on the dotted line as soon as possible.

“He’s a massive player for us and a great leader,” Henderson said.

“We need to keep him for as long as we can. I hope he stays for many years to come.

“I thought Steven was outstanding for us. It was a real captain’s performance from him.

“He worked so hard for the team and he got his rewards with his goal.”
