Brendan Rodgers says he remains calm about the rumours regarding his future, following Liverpool’s dismal start to the season.

The Reds have won just one of their last eight matches in all competitions, and bookmakers have slashed the odds on Rodgers to become the first manager of the season to lose his job.

But the Northern Irishman is hoping Wednesday night’s improved performance in the 2-2 draw with Ludogorets can inspire the Reds to turn their fortunes around.

“We are hoping that our season began the other night and obviously it will only count if we can take it into tomorrow’s game,” he told reporters.

“It is a different challenge because everything has been hunky dory for about 18 months. It is a different deck of cards we have this year, we just need to focus on the now.

“I said to the players, ‘what’s happened before has gone, we haven’t been on a good run, but let that be the making of us.

“We got a result the other night against Ludogorets, it was a good performance, we were competitive and we take this forward

“The bookmakers expect me to lose my job – it’s football. A few months ago, I was manager of the year, now I’m favourite to get the sack. It’s part of working in football. All you can do is focus on the immediate job and focus on what you can control.”
