Liverpool could yet sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, despite the offer of Louis van Gaal to have the Spaniard train with Manchester United, according to the Express.

Valdes is still without a club having seen his contract expire at the Nou Camp in the summer, and has been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield on a free transfer.

That was until van Gaal – who gave the goalkeeper his debut at Barcelona – offered the chance for him to train with Manchester United, with the possibility of a contract offer should he prove his fitness.

However, reports in Spain suggest Valdes will reject United’s advances as he does not see any way past first choice goalkeeper David De Gea at Old Trafford.

That could revive Liverpool’s hopes of signing the 32-year-old, with Brendan Rodgers still looking for a goalkeeper to provide competition for the under-performing Simon Mignolet.
