Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has taken a dig at Liverpool, insisting Luis Suarez made up ‘70%’ of their team last season.

The Reds have looked a shadow of their former selves since Suarez completed a £75million move to Barcelona in the summer, whilst Daniel Sturridge has not featured since August 31 having sustained an injury on international duty.

Speaking to El Pais in Spain, Mata said: “When we played against Liverpool, Luis Suarez could beat us on his own. He was the 70 per cent of Liverpool.”

Mata aimed the dig at Liverpool when discussing which foreign imports had impressed him the most during his time in the Premier League – with the Uruguayan being up there alongside teammate Robin van Persie.

Suarez scored 31 goals for the Reds last season and provided 12 assists as Brendan Rodgers side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.
