Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out a move for Liverpool star Raheem Sterling, insisting a move for the 19-year-old is not in Real Madrid’s transfer plans, reports the Mirror.

The former AC Milan manager admits he did once try and sign Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard however.

Sterling has been linked with a mega money move to Real Madrid in recent weeks, but the England international now looks set to sign a new long term contract at Anfield.

And Liverpool fans can relax knowing that Madrid boss Ancelotti has no interest in signing the youngster.

He said: “Sterling is a player of great quality, certainly one of the best in Europe. But we already have extraordinary talent here.

“So to think of another striker for the Real Madrid attack is really extremely difficult.

“It’s clear that Sterling is not in our plans.”

The Italian coach says he did once try and lure Steven Gerrard to AC Milan however, in a move that would have seen the Reds midfielder partner Andrea Pirlo at the San Siro.

“We had sounded him out but Gerrard’s bond with Liverpool was unbreakable,” he said.

“I don’t remember exactly what year it was but we did try. Of course, I wanted to pair him up with Pirlo, it was a fantastic combination. Putting Gerrard in midfield with Pirlo. It would have been fantastic.”
