The stories about Raheem Sterling’s future have been becoming increasingly annoying in recent weeks, but today’s story from the Express has gone too far.

The publication claims Chelsea – who else? – are said to be considering a £48million move for the Liverpool star.

The west London club have been involved with high profile transfer saga’s with the Reds in recent years, with Steven Gerrard the subject of their interest in 2004 and 2005, whilst Fernando Torres completed a £50million move to Stamford Bridge in 2011.

And with the reports worryingly suggesting Sterling and his advisors are still some distance apart in negotiations over a new deal, Jose Mourinho is planning to swoop in and take advantage of the situation.

The Reds are reportedly ready to offer Sterling a five year deal, worth £100,000 a week, with Sterling’s situation being closely monitored by European money-bags Real Madrid and Paris St Germain.

And now it seems Chelsea are set to throw their name into the ring.

Brendan Rodgers declared only this week that he was ‘adamant’ Sterling would be staying at Anfield however, so lets just hope this is needless speculation.

And if not, then just remember what happened to Fernando Raheem…
