Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Xherdan Shariri, after the Swiss star revealed he may have to leave Bayern Munich after all in January, reports the Daily Star.

The Reds attempted to bring Shaqiri to Anfield in the summer, only to see Bayern block the move.

The 22-year-old insisted just a matter of days ago that he was happy to stay with the Bundesliga champions, however he has now admitted he may be forced to leave in January due to a lack of first team opportunities.

Shaqiri said: “In the summer I said that I would like to have more playing time.

“I sat down with the club and made my position clear.

“I accepted staying, but in the winter we need to sit again and look at the situation.

“The key to performing well is to maintain good contact with the coach and to enjoy his confidence, but it has not always been the case here.

“I need confidence and I struggle to contribute if something is amiss.”
