Mamadou Sakho has apologised for leaving Anfield prior to yesterday’s Merseyside derby, having been informed by Brendan Rodgers that he was not a part of the match day squad.

The French defender was snapped leaving Anfield with an unhappy look on his face prior to kick off, and took to Twitter last night to apologise to anyone he had offended by not being at the game to support his teammates.

The 24-year-old wrote: “I really want to apologise to the club, the supporters and every person who felt offended when I left the stadium this afternoon.”

“I’m aware that it was a bad choice from my part to go isolating to watch the game.”

Liverpool were robbed of all three points at Anfield, when Phil Jagielka hit a stunning 30 yard strike to cancel out Steven Gerrard’s opener from a free kick.
